When people think of Finland, they usually think of cold weather, heavy metal, or ice hockey. But growing up here, you realize that Finnishness is actually found in the quiet, everyday moments. Here is my take on what our culture looks like from the inside—and why we act the way we do.
My thoughts on Finnishness
When thinking about life in Finland, darkness and sauna are the most prominent things on my mind.
Finnish sauna culture and all it's traditions are very unique. In the past people have used saunas as treatments to diseases, given birth in them and even dried grain in the sauna. Back in the day people believed that in every sauna, there lived a sauna elf or spirit. Although transformed more into modern time saunas still hold some of the old times spirituality and superstitions.
