What is it like to talk with a Finn?
Most Finns speak good English and it is easy understand what we are saying. It is also easy to follow our speech because of long pauses and short sentences.
When you talk to a Finn you do not know in advance, you should keep a long distance to him while talking. If you come towards him fast and get really close, he might get scared. And even if the Finn is a friend of yours, keep your distance. We do strong hand shakes, but hugs are usually saved only for close friends and family.
When a Finn keeps quiet while discussion, do not think he does not like you: it is really normal behavior from us. Sometimes you just do not need to say anything…
What I am proud of?
I am very proud of Finland, especially because it is such a small country and still achieved so much. We are recognized all over the world by such a positive things: NOKIA (I think it is still positive), sports i. e. formula and hockey and many other strange but positive things.
I am also very proud of our nature: it is always great to tell about it to foreigners and amaze them. Sauna traditions are also pretty strange and there for I also love telling about those. Playing Sibelius and also well known Finnish rock bands are also great – I just love them.
And education… It has such a high quality and many people around the world also know about it. That is why many people come here to spend their student mobility. Also the fact that education is free in here is so amazing – and still Finnish government supports our studies with eve hundreds of euros per person (depending about how you live)!
What a great country!
