NATURE
The presence of Nature in the everyday life shapes Finns and gives the strength and backbone. Nothing is more soothing than swimming in natural waters, be it summer or winter. Forests, parks, fields, gardens.. we Finns love them all.
INDIVIDUALITY
Mind your own business and take good care not to stick your nose into places where it is not wanted. Finns are also very independent and prefer to achieve their goals by themselves. This mindset can be seen in the way Finns rarely talk to strangers and some even hate to speak to people in customer service who could make their life easier. Instead of asking a store clerk where an item is, we spend 15 minutes trying to find it by ourselves.
4 SEASONS/WEATHER
Bad weather is not a reason to cancel plans; it is always just about putting on the correct clothes. Foreigners care more about how they look when choosing an outfit whereas most Finns are mainly concerned about the other properties such as warmth, usability and materials of clothes.
WELL-BEING
Our society takes care of its people. Loosing a job or getting sick is not the end of one’s life nor happiness in Finland. Our welfare system guarantees equal opportunities and covers the basic needs for everyone. No one goes hungry.
SILENCE IS GOLDEN
Finnish people don’t speak unless they actually have something important to say. Small talk is difficult for many Finns, and we don’t understand the half-promises that other cultures have. If a Finn says to you “How are you” or ” Let’s meet again” they mean what they are saying and really want to know more about you. Honesty is important to us, as well as punctuality.
