The countryside and cities, all in one nation
One of the greatest things in Finland, in my opinion, is that you can find both real authentic countryside with some real countryside attitudes and customs as well as urban and modern cities. The contrast is big and makes the Finnish culture richer. If you want to live in the city, where everything is close and there are always new people to meet, you can do that. But also, if you want to get close to the nature and just start farming potatoes, you can do that as well.
Nature
Nature can’t be emphasized enough when talking about Finland. Nature is a huge part of every Finns everyday life, at least in some way. Even near big cities you can find wild forests, fields and landscapes. Finland is known for protecting its nature and luckily so! The forests and waters are beautiful and free for everyone to enjoy. The beautiful nature of Finland also attracts tourists all over the world, especially to Lapland. The northern landscapes are just something worth the travel, also for Finns themselves.
Finnish ethics
A strong headline, but in my experience when comparing Finland and Finns to other countries, Finns have in general very good ethics. Finland is a safe country, the sense of right and wrong is strong and people are honest and follow the law and rules. Naturally there are exceptions, but most people I know are “good people” in this way. Nature is respected, the society is equal and corruption levels are close to minimum, just to mention a few points.
Things like this make me feel proud to be Finnish.
