I have lived a middle of Finland in Oulu almost my hole age. This has made it possible to travel, for example to Lapland snowboarding and visit Santa Claus. This brings us to one of my favorite times of the year – winter. In winter, Finland has snow and therefore opportunities to practice various winter sports, example skating or skiing. I also think that sauna and winter swimming are big part of Finnishness. I especially love to go swimming in winter, and it is one of the ways to survive the winter. My favorite place in Tampere go to winter swimming and sauna is Kaupinoja Sauna.
Whether summer or winter, Finns enjoy sauna bathing, and I feel that it also increases the sense of community in Finland. I think many Finnish people are shy and little quiet. And it’s very unnormal to casually talk with strange people. But if you go sauna in Kaupinoja there are Finnish people that who might chat with you. Maybe it’s the sauna ‘’magic’’ that makes Finns to speak to each other.
In summer Finns celebrate Midsummer. Midsummer is one of my favorite holidays and I think that Finns are happier in the summer than in the other three seasons. In summer Finnish people go on holiday, stay at a summer cottage, swim and enjoy the nature. I would also like to highlight the Finnish nature and what it means to Finns. Nature in Finland is beautiful in every season of the year, and it provides a source of calm and inspiration. It is an essential part of Finnish life.
