Where we grow up greatly affects who we become, how we think and see the world. I am proud to be Finnish and appreciate my home country a lot. A few of my favorite Finnish things include:
- Nature
Finland’s nature is one of a kind and breathtakingly beautiful. I am always mesmerized by the beauty of our lakes and forests. In winter, the snow-covered landscape and trees are unique and look almost magical. Nature is important to Finnish people and it is highly cherished.
- Language
It is a privilege to be able to speak such a unique language that only a few million people in the world speak and understand. It is not like the other languages in Nordic countries. When traveling, it is like having a secret language.
- Trustworthiness
Finnish people appreciate honesty and trust. It is also what makes Finland a safe country to live in because people have a sense of reliability and doing the right thing.
These are a few things I value and appreciate about Finland. We don’t often stop and ponder about all the good things in our culture but it is a healthy thing to do once in a while. It makes us see how many things there are in our home country to be grateful for.
