Calm nature of the Finnish way of life

I truly don't believe that there is a clear indication of Finnishness in any particular lifestyle, as it can differ from person to person. I think anyone can define their own Finnishness themselves. There are some values though, that can probably be associated closely with Finns.

In my 21 years of life I haven’t lived in the city, meaning I have led a peaceful life. This peace is something I associate with a typical Finnish lifestyle, My family has a summer cottage, which is a place I am very fond of. A cottage that is surrounded by nature everywhere you look: be it a lake, forest, a field, more forest – nature is all around. The effects of it are purely meditative.

Winter in Finland is my favourite season. Most people who come to learn this usually cannot believe it at first, as the expectation is for everyone to love the summer (I like both). But there is something so soothing about the crisp air filling your lungs and beautiful white snow everywhere. I don’t mind the early darkness either! For some countries in the world, snow is not a guaranteed occurrance and for some, it’s guaranteed to not get any at all. I consider myself lucky to live here.

Snowsports such as skiing, snowboarding and what not – while not necessarily finnish inventions – are genius inventions and it brings me joy to know that other people have as much appreciation for winter as I do.
