Finland is the land of thousands of lakes. In Finland, we have 188,000 lakes. Finnish people love doing activities in lakes, especially in summer. Finnish people enjoy cottage life, and every fifth household has a cottage, usually near a lake. There, people go swimming, fishing, rowing, jet skiing, and more. In winter, Finnish people also enjoy ice swimming, snowmobiling, ice skating, and ice fishing. So basically, you can do the same activities as in summer, but the lake is covered with ice, so it’s a little different. Many people recognize Finland for Lapland and its beautiful winter wonderland, but Finland is also stunning in the summertime with all its lakes, and tourists must visit a summer cottage near a lake. Finland’s lakes are mostly very clear, and you can drink water straight from the lake. In summer cottages, people can also shower using lake water. Finland’s water is some of the clearest in the world. About 10% of Finland’s land area is water, mostly lakes, rivers, and ponds.
