In Finland success is admired but bragging about it isn’t considered modest. Be it excelling at work, hobbies or studies, finns tend to downplay their achievements. Actions are louder than words is a popular phrase even here. Growing in such an environment, I learned to quietly appreciate my own accomplishments and only boast about them to close friends and family. It’s much more meaningful to show your achievements through actions rather than telling the world about them. Humility is a part of everyday interactions. Finnish people enjoy the quietness, not as a sign of awkwardness but rather a sign of respect. The silence gives a chance for pondering and thinking.
The modest approach to life resonates with me. To enjoy and appreciate the peaceful and quiet moments. This modest way of life is common in Finnish community, showing collective commitment to equality and the well-being of all. Extreme individualistic and putting yourself above other isn’t widely accepted. Everyone contributes for the wellbeing of all.
In conclusion, for me, a Finnishness is quiet strength and pride in oneself and the country. Its about understanding that there’s no need to boast about your value and that humility isn’t a weakness but respectful way of living. Modesty and humility aren’t only for individuals but as a society it brings equality and quiet respect to yourself and others.
