Finnishnes

I think that Finnish culture and finnishnes are largely shaped by nature, respect, resilience and traditions.

Lakes and forests are a large part of finnishnes, in part because such a large part of Finland is covered by them. Most Finnish people have some sort of connection to nature, many have cottages that are surrounded by nature and have lakes close to them. Many also go to forests regularly to pick berries or mushrooms or to just walk around and relax.

Respect is an important aspect of finnishnes. It is probably most visible in Finnish culture in the form of personal space. Most Finnish people enjoy having their personal space, and tend to respect the personal space of others.

Resilience is something that is pretty ingrained in Finnish society. We even have our own word for Finnish resiliency, Sisu. Resilience is present in most things Finnish people do, but I think that it is perhaps the most visible in sports in the form of never giving up and working hard to achieve your goals, the background stories of many Finnish athletes include very hard work and dedication. This is something I have grown up closely with and have seen since a small child, as my hometown, Jyväskylä, is the birthplace of many international superstars in different sports, such as Sami Vatanen, Lauri Markkanen, Olli Määttä, Kalle Rovanperä, Mika Kohonen, and many more.
