In this blog I will share my own experience of being Finnish, how it affects me on daily basis and what are positive sides but also what are the negatives.
Waking up on a Saturday morning, January has just started, I look outside, everything is white, clean, at peace. Living in Finland has given me a lot of things. Things that many people and nations don’t have and wish to have. Education, healthcare, democracy just to name some. All the mentioned are not just things that work, they work well. They define Finnish society and give all the assets to Finnish people to thrive. For me the system gives more freedom. Because I don’t have to worry about basic needs, it lets me to fully focus on living my life to the fullest.
What makes a nation to be nation is the people. In case of Finland my experience is that people are honest, reliable and self-kept. To society to work people need trust other people and I have learnt that in Finland trust is one of the key factors that makes our society strong and thriving.
In my opinion being born in Finland is as the same as winning lottery. The things that Finland can provide to an individual, are things that many people will not have the pleasure of having. At the same time, I think that many don’t understand or cannot comprehend how blessed they are. They only see the problems they are having, which usually are small compared to problems people are having outside of Finland.
In summary for me Finnishness is being authentic, honest and blessed.
