Finnishness - beauty of the simple things

Finnishness is all about admiring the beauty of simple things - that is something that I find Finns to be very good at.

Finland has so many beautiful things: nature, culture, people. Finnishness is about appreciating those things and being happy and proud of them. Finns are thankful for small things and value those that are given to them.

Nature in Finland is breathtaking. From national parks to thousands of lakes and midnight sun, in Finland you can experience every side of the nature. My own favorites are many lakes that you can find everywhere and just go swim in those. Foliage is another favorite, which always amazes me. Especially in Lapland, where the nature is matchless. I also love that you can pick berries and mushrooms and preserve them for the winter. To find so many beautiful things in the nature and appreciating them is a good example how finnishness is about the beauty of small things.

Culture in Finland is diverse and has a long history. From folk music and Kalevala to museums of contemporary arts and big music festivals, you can find it all in here. While still respecting history and learning about that, Finland is building up it’s reputation as a country that has interesting culture and many events that support this claim.

Finns are a nation who are simple but cherish the small things in life. We are accommodating, kind and trustworthy as well. That’s what finnishness is to me.
