Finland is known as the land of a thousand lakes and its beautiful nature. For me personally, one of the dearest things in Finland is the forests. Since I was little, I have loved spending time in the forest, either picking berries or just enjoying the atmosphere. In addition to the forests, the countless beautiful ponds and lakes have always fascinated me. A big part of Finnishness is also respect for nature. In Finland, people try to avoid littering as much as possible and to treat nature with care. This respect is also reflected in old Finnish folk tales, where nature was sometimes even feared.

In addition to respecting nature, Finns also respect other people. Valuing each other’s time and personal space is an important part of Finnish culture. Traditional Finnish habits also include going to the sauna and drinking coffee. Drinking coffee is a big part of Finnish social life, and often spending time together involves having a cup of coffee. The well-known Moomin mugs are also an important part of Finnish culture.
To me, Finnishness is a combination of nature, respect, and traditions that bring people together. Whether it’s walking in the forest, enjoying the silence of a lake, sitting in the sauna, or sharing coffee with friends, these small but meaningful moments describe what being Finnish means to me.
