For me, Lapland really feels like the heart of Finnishness. I’ve been going there since I was a child, and it’s always had a special place in my heart. There’s something almost magical about the place. A calm and peaceful feeling that’s hard to explain. The air, the endless forests, and the landscapes all make you feel both relaxed and inspired at the same time.
The nature there is honestly incredible. In the summer, the sun barely sets, giving you those long, golden evenings that feel almost unreal. In winter, the snow and the northern lights create this magical, otherworldly vibe. It’s a kind of quiet beauty that makes you just stop and enjoy the moment.
Each season has its own charm. In winter, the sun barely rises, but the northern lights make up for it. In autumn, the fall colors are beyond words – nothing like the autumns in the cities. In spring, the days get longer, yet you can still go skiing and enjoy the snow. Summer more than makes up for the dark winter, because the sun never sets. It’s amazing to check the time at 3 a.m. and realize it’s still bright outside. You can see reindeer all year round, but in summer they’re more common and often gather in large groups.
Whenever someone from abroad asks me where they should go in Finland, I always say Lapland. It’s a place where you can really get a taste of Finnish culture, feel the magic of the north, and experience nature at its purest. No matter how many times I visit, Lapland never fails to amaze me and leave me with memories I’ll never forget.
