If i have to describe Finland in four words I would say nature, coffee, sauna and ice hockey. Yes, we are huge coffee lovers and one big ice hockey family. Ice hockey is easily the most watched sport in Finland. Why? Well, Finnish ice hockey players are considered among the elite of the sport globally and almost everyone watch either Finnish Championship league, World Championship league or NHL. And we talk about that a lot.
And what about saunas? It is definitely “if you know you know” type of thing, but sauna bathing, swimming in the lake and doing the same thing during winter in freezing ice lake is something we can call Finnish traditions. Even though I am a bit of a cold-sensitive person, being Finnish means walking to school through snowy winter frost, digging your car out from under a blanket of snow so that you can get to work, and taking turns hauling skis and skates to elementary school for PE class. Finnish summer is very short, so we enjoy every single day of it completely. All four seasons are beautiful.
Finnish filter coffee is simply the best and there is no comparison to that. Finns drink many cups of coffee each day, even in the evening. That is something I personally am going to miss a lot when in exchange.
It is always nice to visit new places and I am super excited going exchange and learn other cultures but I am still proud that i get to live in Finland.
