My Experiences of Finnishness

Finnishness means a lot to me. I guess I will say the same as everyone else, but nature, thousands of lakes and safety. You don’t think about Finnish culture until you try to explain it to someone. Last winter I worked in Lapland, only with the tourists, and many things that are normal

to us, are very strange to them. That is when I realized that I can be proud of Finnishness, of Lapland and of the nature we have. One of the fun things about Finnishness when working with tourist, is coffee. Many tourists only drank cappuccino, latte, espresso etc. and ordinary filter coffee seems strange to them, and they are afraid to drink it. Finnish coffee is too weak and bad. And it is rarely sold, because tourists always want specialty coffee.

Especially in Lapland you can see the Finnishness. There is amazing nature, long roads and trips everywhere, lot of caring for reindeer and nature, ice fishing, and lot of people moving in nature whether skiing, walking or snowmobiling. I heard from other workers that ice fishing in particular was such a strange thing for tourists

I have rarely seen on social media that someone would say that Finland is not a good place to live or be. I believe that many think that Finland is peaceful country, and of course we also are the happiest country in the world, and many foreigners know that. But of course, because we are Finns, we don’t admit that we are the happiest or take credit for it. It is good to be in Finland and we must be proud of Finnishness!
