First thing that comes to my mind when thinking about Finnishness, is our beautiful nature. Thousands of lakes, deep forests, fields beyond the reach of an eye and the fells in Lapland. I find our nature calming and the best way to relax for me, and without a doubt to a lot of other Finns, is in the middle of forest listening nothing but birds chirping and the trees rustling in the wind, or sitting on a lakefront listening the water swishing and maybe a campfire crackling, or laying down on the snow at night looking at the stars and The Northern Lights dancing on the sky.
There’s only one thing that would make these moments better, and thats sauna. Anyone who knows anything about Finland or Finns, probably already knows that we love sauna and it’s very sacred place to us. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a single-family house in Finland that didn’t have a sauna and there isn’t time, place or an event where going to a sauna wouldn’t fit in.
Finns are often seen as quiet and reserved, and i can’t deny that, but the way i see it, is that while we may take more time to ease up, we are very friendly and straightforward poeple. Finns respect your personal space, listen when you’re talking and treat you with warmness.
