Introduction:
Being in Finland as an exchange student has taught me that Finnishness is more than just being from Finland. It is about values, traditions, and ways of life that feel unique. From relaxing in a sauna to enjoying nature, Finnish culture is simple, honest, and calm.
Nature
Finns have a strong connection to nature. Walking in the forests, picking berries, or enjoying a frozen lake shows how important the outdoors is. Being in nature here feels peaceful and grounding.
Sauna
Sauna is a huge part of life. It is not only relaxing but also a time to spend with friends and family. Everyone enjoys the sauna the same way and it feels like a place to slow down and just be.
Sisu
Sisu is a word that means courage and determination. I noticed it in small things like cycling in the snow or just seeing people stay calm and focused. It shows the quiet strength that Finns have.
Reflection
For me, Finnishness is about calmness, connection to nature, and resilience. Experiencing these things has made me appreciate what makes Finland special.
