Several members of the SAFER teaching team participated to the first ever Safety and Security Research Symposium organized at the Tampere University in October 10, 2019. With over 200 participants, 13 panels, plenaries and a keynote lecture X-risks. Not Only Science Fiction Anymore given by Professor Hiski Haukkala, the event connected a wide range of researchers, industry experts, other practitioners and students from the fields of security and safety research.
From the SAFER team Sirpa Virta gave a presentation titled as Contingencies of Security as Challenges of Security Governance and Management whilst Tapio Juntunen’s presentation was titled as Resiliences and the Age of Uncertainty. Overall the themes of the symposium included the governance of uncertainty, safety and security in digitalisation, the ecological crisis and circular economy, global health security, event safety, information operations and media literacy, the security issues and possibilities of face recognition technology, the face of safety in a global world, and the crisis of liberal order.
SAFER students can use the presentations given at the symposium as an inspiration to design their posters and final reports during the course Current Trends in Safety and Security Management.
The members of the SAFER team are pleased to share their presentations to all of those interested in the aforementioned themes (see contact details section of these web-pages). More information from the symposium website: https://events.tuni.fi/turvallisuussymposium2019/.
