The virtual gallery of TAMK Degree Programme in Media and Arts goes Helsinki XR Center Event

Our virtual gallery got good feedback in Helsinki XR Center Match Up – XR Event 20.11. 2019. The virtual gallery was presented in the Match Up event by its creators Liya Pirkuliyeva, Ignasi Granell Vendrell and Mitja Immonen. The Match Up 2019 – XR Event was a huge occasion hosting over 1000 guests from all over the world. There were AR/VR- presentations, companies, start-ups, academics and students. Keynote speakers included Steven M. LaValle; Challenges in wireless VR and Urho Konttori; Varjo & Volvo cooperation.

The virtual gallery was initially created for the needs of the Fine Art study path students for their degree show. As the Degree Programme in Media and Arts is oriented towards emerging technologies we wanted to create an additional 3D virtual world for the artworks, learning and developing the VR -content together. We collaborated and combined the skills from all the study paths: fine art, interactive media and music production. The team produced an interactive and visually interesting gallery which opens up alternative perspectives and experiences of immersion to the viewer. The virtual gallery has been shown in several occasions during 2018-2019: Fine art degree show; Hot Futures and Blind Spot, Gallery Himmelblau, Tampere, XR Challenge, Mediapolis, Tampere, Mind Trek, Tampere, Kuvataiteen valtakunta, Energiverk, Pietarsaari and Helsinki XR Centre. Next publication will be in Spring 2020. TAMK Research and Development Fund has supported the virtual gallery.
