Bro, not cool.

In the book 25 hours a day, Nick Bare is leading us to the world of burnout and work alcoholism. And not in a good way!

As an entrepreneur, it is always possible to do something more. Write one more email, work one more hour, or skip one more holiday. Because of this, it’s easy to think that success comes if you just do one thing more. That one phone call more might be the call that the arrival company didn’t make. It might be the way to success. Being better than others by doing more is logical. But the mentality of “going one more” is toxic.

Bare Performance Nutrition’s founder and president Nick Bare’s book 25 hours a day is wrapped around the sentence. Book’s number one goal is to build hype on “going one more”. While reading, I couldn’t bypass a feeling of unfinished advice.

Stay awake one more hour. Run one more mile. Take one more educational course on your calendar. Fill your days from morning till the evening with actions that take you closer to your goals.

Well, that is a nice thought. But real life isn’t so black and white. Maybe for some, it is admirable to live and breathe throw their goals as Bare is doing, but I don’t see it that way. I don’t wanna look up to a work alcoholic who puts “development” and “success” over every other thing.

Everyone’s thoughts and experiences can teach us but it is important to choose our idols wisely. Bare’s book taught me a lot and he has definitely achieved amazing things. But still, I will continue my search for an author/person whose number one advice I actually wanna follow.

What I respect a lot in entrepreneurs’ careers is a sustainable lifestyle. Most importantly: time for things where I’m not trying to accomplish anything.
