The first challenge behind, I think that this was quite different from what I did before in my education. Despite the total freedom, I think I definitely learned more than I expected.
I suppose that’s the key to ProAkatemia’s learning method, we take responsibility for our own studies. In the end, it is up to us what we do and how we do it. It directly links to the entrepreneurial lifestyle. We take the responsibility for our own decisions.
Entrepreneur in Finnish is ‘yrittäjä’ meaning someone who tries. It’s often seen as a very difficult and risky idea that many want to stay away from. From my observation work for someone else in western culture is often strongly associated with pursuing our ‘rights’, while becoming self-employed means to take on responsibility for these ‘rights’. There are of course exceptions to that rule, but at least in the area of basic manual jobs, it often seems to be the case in my opinion.
By becoming an entrepreneur, we take charge of the situation. Mentioned before the problem can be the opportunity to create a network of people who want to change that and even provide better possibilities. That network creates our surroundings and influences us in everyday life. In that space, we can focus on the further development of our as well as others’ happiness and wellbeing in a deeper meaning.
As many risks there are, we have also many places where we can seek help in the beginning and also later when we want to expand. Different associations help to start businesses financially or by consulting. Clear structure in the Finnish system and trustworthy banks are a good start. We are supported by high-quality education, a health care system, and many social benefits. It is important to create a plan that will help us to pursue it and also to present it to others. We might attract people who think alike and become stronger and better.
Finland is the safest, freest, most stable and the happiest country in the world in past years attracts people from many different places and backgrounds. It’s currently ranked 5th in terms of human capital. That brings great value when starting a new company.
I think that Finland has a lot to offer and the possibility to live and run a business here is a privilege.
