LUNCH AT TOAS - 04.12.2025

-

Our 8th meeting was on 4th December at TOAS when the four of us had a lunch together in a casual setting. We happened to discuss our favourite snacks and foods, which soon resulted in sharing of cultural habits. We also took some of the common Spanish foods such as tortilla de patatas, croquetas and churros, and Alijon made us sample some real Tajik snacks.

I acquired new words in Persian during the chat that dealt with food and meals. I also felt more secure about using the smaller vocabulary that I was already familiar with, as I did not have to worry since it was brought up naturally in context. This learning process was much more natural than the others as the words were not only memorised but also linked to real-life events, smell, and tastes and could thus be easier to remember.

I also came to learn that I still had my problems: there are certain Persian sounds which I find challenging to pronounce and I reiterate them to hear them correctly. Nonetheless, this helped me to realize what I should improve in the subsequent meetings.

All in all, this session has shown me that comfort in learning can be achieved through the simplest of things such as food. It also helped us to understand the culture of one another in addition to sharpening our language skills in a natural and entertaining way.
