Tamko

In this session, we were sitting at Tamko which is a small room with sofas, and we were having some coffee. We began discussing the plans of our day and weekend that contributed to establishing a relaxed environment.

We shared the common celebrations and traditions in both Spain and Tajikistan such as national holidays, clothes, and wedding traditions. We contrasted our engagements and marriage customs, and it was interesting to know that people tend to get married at 28 years old in both countries, however, the rituals, music and the way of dressing vary enormously.

The other intriguing area was the government and social norms in the two countries that provided me with a wider scope of how the society works and the way cultural practices develop. The exchange and comparison of these experiences also enabled the discussion to become more interactive and engaging compared to a normal lesson.

Reflecting on this experience, I can tell that now I feel more confident in the speech on cultural issues in English. I also realized that learning the language is not only about the words, but also the culture background of a particular country and lifestyle of a country. Overall, it was an educative, enjoyable, and taught me the new information about the Spanish and the Tajik tradition, not to mention that it was a part of my development in the areas of speaking and intercultural communication.
