2.10 - Walk at the Lake

Amber and Sandra

Before we started learning new information during our third meeting, we came to the conclusion that it would be useful to spend some time reviewing the previous meeting. During the meeting, you learn new words, culture, phrases and how to pronounce them, but as we never reviewed this afterwards, it did not stay in our long-term memory.

Personally, I decided to go over the spelling rules beforehand in order to be able to pronounce as correctly as possible.

In this case we were going to talk about things related to nature and the weather in order to continue learning about basic things, their pronunciation and also about different aspects of Dutch culture.

Amber explained to me that autumn is very similar to Finland. The leaves also change their colors and it is about 15-20 degrees during the day. At night it is about 2 degrees and in late autumn it can be a few degrees below zero.

In winter it sometimes snows and they can walk in the snow and skate.

Temperatures can be very changeable in general. It can be cold one day and warm the next.

In the case of spring, it is a time when there are many flowers and it is warm. There are many sunny days and few rainy days. Especially compared to autumn.

In summer, it can sometimes be 30 degrees, but it can also change from week to week. They can have a very hot day and the next day they can have a big storm, so they never finish putting away their long trousers and sweatshirts. In the case of Spain, we all put away our warm clothes when summer comes.

The vocabulary we have worked on today is based on nature and aspects related to it: we have talked about the seasons, the different temperatures and elements of nature such as flowers, leaves or trees. We also talked about how to say the days of the week in both languages.

Before the end of the session, we have been commenting on how happy we are with how far we are progressing. As Amber says, I think we are teaching each other in a good way because when someone says something wrong, we shake our heads or say it’s not right and give the other person time to review the rules we have previously established and repeat the word or phrase until we get it right. We also guide and teach each other with respect and above all with a lot of patience.

I am really happy with the progress I am making and also with the progress Amber is making, I think it is a sign that we are interested in learning about each other’s culture and that we are teaching each other in the right way.Walking
