The idea of our third meeting was to talk about fruit culture while buying fruits. And as you might have guessed, the fruits that grow in the Carribean are very different from the ones growing in Germany. Eventhough we eat a lot of tropical fruits in Germany, we mostly eat one or two species of a fruit (banana, avocado etc.) that are grown in mass production. In St. Maarten there are e.g. smaller bananas and ones with a different taste that we would call Kochbanane (cooking banana). They also have smaller Avocados and they have all kinds of fruits I never heard of. Noni e.g. is a really gross looking fruit that smells even worse (at least thats what I was told). They use it for tea and cooking sometimes. It was really nice to get to know the different variations of tropical fruits that grow in St.Maarten.
