5th Meeting: Moomins and Germany's Next Topmodel

On today's agenda: TV shows.

This time we decided to watch some famous German and Finnish TV shows. For Germany we decided to watch “Germany’s Next Topmodel” as it is still really popular in Germany and easy to understand without context or the right vocabulary. There where a lot of words we talked about that are difficult to explain to non-native speakers such as “eben”. Also in Reality TV the participants are not focused on speaking clearly which made it harder on the one hand side but also showed how people talk in real situations.

For the Finnish TV show we chose the moomins. For one, because they are an essential part of Finnish culture, one can see them everywhere. Even on food packages in the supermarket. Although, I did not really understand what they were saying I was still able to follow it as cartoons for children are easy to understand from the pictures and Essi made sure to make breaks and explain to us what was going on. I even understood some words which I already knew which made it more fun and I learned some new ones.
