Fifth meeting (11.11)

The fifth meeting took place in the Rahuaniemi sauna, as the four of us wanted to experience Finnish roots together.

We met there, and each of us came from home. First of all we put on our bikinis and went into the sauna, stayed there for a few minutes and ran out to the lake. The water in the lake is so cold that we could only stay there for a few seconds. We didn’t understand how the locals manage to stay longer in the water, maybe it’s the mentality of each one. We repeated this process several times and at the end we cooked some sausages. Next to the sauna there is a small barbecue where you can grill whatever you bring from home. Also, we saw people having drinks and chatting.

As we looked at the setting together we started to talk about the strength of the Finnish mentality and culture, and about the word sisu. We also talked about what stereotypes we attributed to Finnish people before we came to Finland. We all agreed that Finns are introverted, but they are always ready to help you if you need it, they are very friendly. Also that they have a different humour than in Germany and Spain. That they are not very expressive people. On the other hand, in spite of the differences with our customs we are all very happy living here in Finland.

It is curious to immerse yourself in the culture of another country and feel like one of them, it is very enriching to learn about their habits.
