Today we went to an ice hockey game together. As we had already learned a lot about the other country, we thought it was worth doing something typically Finnish. During the breaks, we talked about the typical sports from our home country.
I’ve been to a few ice hockey games in Germany and was able to point out the differences to German ice hockey. I was a bit disappointed by the game because I expected a different atmosphere in the stadium. In Germany, the whole crowd cheers on their team and there’s loud cheering. At this game, nobody outside the small fan block clapped and nobody stood up for the last few minutes.
During the breaks, we talked about the typical sports from our home country. Soccer is very popular in Germany, as it is in the Netherlands. I am from Munich, where the FC Bayern München is omnipresent. However, I am a big basketball fan.
In the Netherlands icehockey is not very popular. Field-hockey is very popular in the Netherlands and in field-hockey they sometimes win big games.
It never fails to amaze me, how sport brings people together. It was very funny to cheer together for the team from Tampere. Emotions were very high.
