I was on exchange in the Netherlands at a city called Den Haag which was amazing, I had the absolute honor to study at The Hague University of applied sciences. The nine months I spent there were absolutely transformative and couldn’t ask for a better experience. From the fluctuating weather to the amazing sceneries, the incredible beaches at Den Haag, cultural inclusivity and incredible people I had the opportunity to get to know.
On my exchange, my focus and goal was to learn how to blend business with art. I wanted to have a deeper understanding of both worlds, not just learn about them but actually live and gain knowledge. I wanted to get involved and that’s why I worked on an art exhibition with the peace institution of Oslo. Their job was to communicate to people who have not experienced war related trauma to understand how it feels through art. I also worked on my leadership skills. Whether it was leading a project or just figuring out how to work with people from different backgrounds.
But it wasn’t all work. I really got the opportunity to soak up the culture around me, from busy markets to quiet galleries and museums such as the Gemmentemuseum Den Haag museum . Every experience added a layer of understanding of the world as well as myself.
During my spare time in the Netherlands, I fully had the chance to experience the social country it had to offer. From the lively streets of Amsterdam to the quiet and vibrant cities. One of my favorite things to do was attending concerts, where I could enjoy and dance to rhythmic melodies and songs I’ve always wanted to hear live. Each concert was incredible and inspiring in their own way. Swimming became a refreshing escape, especially on warm days. Museums have always been one of my favorite things to do for exploration and discovery. From amazing masterpieces for thought through exhibits.
Church services, and in the presence of God, was where I always found peace and joy. Church was a place where I could always find spiritual connection amidst the hustle of daily life, worship and hear incredible sermons. But perhaps the highlight of my spare time was the opportunity to try different cuisines. Yet, with all these experiences, what truly made it worth my time in the Netherlands was the chance to connect with people from diverse backgrounds. Each interaction was a reminder of the beauty of human connection and the beauty of shared experiences.
