I traveled to South Korea at the end of February and stayed there until late August. I did my exchange in a beautiful and vivacious Seoul, at a university called Soongsil.
I chose five courses and most of them had something to do with the culture of Korea since I thought I couldn’t take that kind of courses back in Finland. I did, however, have a couple of courses that were similar to the ones I had in my home uni. I also had a Korean language course since I wanted to learn more about it and possibly communicate with locals.
During my spare time, I mostly hung out with other exchange students. We enjoyed spending time in cafes, eating amazing Korean food, shopping, karaoke, and just sometimes enjoying our night at the local 7-Eleven eating chips and drinking chilsung (an amazing Korean soft drink, a little bit like Sprite but better). I did travel quite often as well. I did visit Busan with a friend, and I traveled to Gunsan and Daejeon with my boyfriend which was amazing! I also participated in the taekwondo club every Monday and Thursday!
I know as an exchange student you have it a little bit easier than “normal” students. Our teachers were very kind and encouraged us to travel and learn about the culture. They gave us their tips about what to try and what not to do! All of my courses were interesting and the teachers and fellow students were amazing. I can truly say I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed school this much in my whole life.
