Cheers from Madrid

Studying and living in Spain has been an amazing experience, that I'll sure remember for the rest of my life. I've travelled quite a lot solo before, but living in another country by myself has been very different compared to traveling.

I fell in love with Madrid when I visited here for the first time back in 2018. So when it was time to decide the exchange destination, I knew I wanted to come here to get to know Madrid better and the Spanish language and culture. And it has been everything I hoped for and more.

Studying here has been surprisingly similar to studying in Finland, which was not what I expected. I was expecting more lectures and solo work, but it’s been a lot of group projects and very practical tasks. So quite similar to TAMK I’d say. I was also surprised how well the professors speak English (not everyone of course) and how nice they have been. My favorite thing is how all my professors have wanted to learn my name very fast and they are interested in my home country and culture as well. Everyone is very friendly here at Universidad Fransisco de Vitoria, which is a private university.

During my spare time I enjoy going out with my local and international friends, explore the nice bars and cafés in Madrid and travel around Spain. My favorite places have been San Sebastián and Valencia. It’s quite easy and cheap to travel from Madrid, since it’s in the center of Spain.

Though it’s been great here, I’m already looking forward to returning to Finland to my home and seeing my family and friends. And of course I’m taking all my nice memories and experiences with me.

Un cordial saludo,

Venla
