*check out the fun memories from my semester in this video:
I had a lot of expectations before coming to Erasmus and I can truly say that I exceeded all of my expectations. I have had the time of my life living in Porto for this semester. I have fallen in love with this country and I am more than happy to say that I will be staying here for another semester for an exciting internship. I could see myself living here even longer time, but the time will tell what the future brings. Portugal is a beautiful country with amazing landscapes, warm-hearted people, and wonderful culture. There is so much to do and I have truly enjoyed every week here. Since the beginning of my Erasmus journey, Porto has felt like a warm, welcoming home. Here, the spirit of everyday life is celebrated with enthusiasm, whether it’s the beginning of the week or Saturday.
During my stay here, I’ve picked up some valuable lessons. I’ve learned to take it easy, and not stress about small things. Being a bit late here is no big deal, and schedules are pretty chill. I’ve started making decisions with my heart and living in the moment. I have also realized there are so many possibilities in the world and places that can become home. I have met the most amazing friend group and I feel like I have definitely made friends for life. I have also been lucky to have shared an apartment with the most amazing 14 roommates from around the world. Living with such a large and diverse community has been a unique experience that I had never experienced before. I have also shared a room with my best friend Aino, which has been truly incredible. My favorite moments with my friends have been different road trips around Portugal, walks on the beach, watching the sunsets, and having dinners together.
Portugal is ranked as one of the safest countries in Europe, and I can totally feel that safety wherever I go here. Sometimes Portugal kinda reminds me of Finland, there are calm and cozy in most of the places. The weather has been great too, with mostly sunny days, though Porto gets a bit of rain here and there. I have studied business in Iscap and I have no bad words to say about the school. The atmosphere is welcoming, fostering a positive learning environment. I have deepened my knowledge of marketing and entrepreneurship while also learning the basics of Portuguese.
Overall I can say that I’ve had the time of my life, and this experience will be etched in my memory forever. I am forever thankful for the people who made my Erasmus the best memory ever. Wholeheartedly, I recommend Porto as an Erasmus destination, it is a really living city with cool vibes. If you ever get the chance to go on an Erasmus journey, do it—it’s an indescribable experience that’s truly worth every moment.
