My studies here at University West in Trollhättan, Sweden, have been going great! I’ve been taking many interesting courses, and I really feel like I have learned a lot. I really enjoy how they schedule the courses here. You can pick different courses, which typically last for 5 weeks each and are 7,5 credits. What’s great about this is that they do not overlap, and therefore you can fully focus on one course at a time. I think it really supports the students’ learning!
The study culture here is very similar to that of Finland. One noticeable difference, however, is that the student union is very active and it really caters to the students’ needs. I also feel like there is a clearer focus on students’ well-being and study-life balance. I acknowledge that my host university is also relatively small, which makes it easier for these things to take place.
At first, at the beginning of my exchange, I didn’t really know what to do with my spare time. After a while, however, me and the other exchange students started making plans and hanging out. As it turns out, I was not the only one feeling bored and lonely! Quickly I started filling my spare time with hanging out with my new friends, going out to the local pub to sing karaoke and play shuffleboard, playing padel, and going on hiking trips, etc. The people I’ve met here have been amazing, and it’s going to be really sad to not see them daily anymore.
