Hola from Madrid!

Greetings from Madrid, Spain. I am studying International Business at TAMK and now I have been studying at the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria for the Autumn semester as an exchange student.

Studying in Spain has been very relaxed and easy compared to Finnish school system. We spend more time at the campus but you will always complete your tasks during classes so there is no homework at all which leaves lot more time for exploring the city and country. Also relationship with teachers are much more close than in Finland which makes your presence and opinion more valuable and important.

My spare time here has been gone by exploring the city of Madrid as well as nearby small towns and some larger cities. I definitely recommend to take advantage of your stay and visit as many places as possible. My university arranged short day trips to nearby towns called Toledo, Segovia, Avila and Salamanca. Especially trip to Segovia has stayed on my mind for its beaty and interesting history. Thus, all these small villages include a lot of interesting things from history so I recommend to go on these trips with local guide.

While staying on Spain, the local food and drink culture is one of the best in the whole world. In Madrid you find restaurants and tapas bars in every corner offering various local foods and drinks. It is good to know that the dinner times in Spain differs a lot from Finnish habits. Local people eat way later than Finns and some restaurants doesn’t even open up before 8 in the evening. I really have enjoyed trying new foods in many lovely places. Especially local food market was very amazing place. You can get any kind of food portions during whole day not forgetting local drinks, usually beer or wine. Sangria here is kept more as a tourist thing but similar drink here is called tinto de verano, summer wine, highly recommended.
