Practical training
I am doing two practical trainings. One in Brugge in a psychiatric ward and one closer to the Belgian coast, in Knokke-Heist in a day surgical ward. I feel I learn a lot already in those internships because I really have to use my eyes sometimes because of the language barrier. I am learning a lot of clinical work and I cannot be more grateful about the internships I am in. They’re very different from each other and the hospital buildings are pretty and there is a lot of work and thought behind them.
Spare time
I use my spare time wandering around the big cities of Belgium such as Antwerpen, Gent and Brussels. I also did visit Amsterdam for a weekend already. Sometimes I try to do some sports and I have a contact in Antwerpen to do a exercise I do in Finland aswell (the sport requires a partner) but we haven’t managed to find a matching date since we both have some busy days. We visited a football match here and it really had a awesome atmosphere. Stunning performance from the players since it was a knockout victory of 7-0.
Studies
I was in a simulation exercise and it was truly a learning experience for me and for the Belgian students aswell. I feel like we all enjoyed of this not-so-familiar situation. I think there is some little aspects and differences in the way we work in a ward but eventually it is very similar and the care ends up in the same conclusion as we would do in Finland.
