Greetings from Spain!

Malaga

Greetings from Costa del sol! Here I’ll tell you about my experiences living in Fuengirola and traineeship as a social services student.

I’m here to do my second practical training in a Finnish school. The school is small and private, and it’s been easy to fit in. Everyone has been very welcoming, and it has been fun to get to know new people and work with them.

During the first few weeks, I worked with 3rd and 4th graders, and now I am with 7th to 9th graders for the final weeks. It has been rewarding to establish a connection with the kids and notice how they trust me. As a social services student, my job is to support students’ well-being and ensure that they are heard and understood. I help them with various tasks, listen when they want to share their joys and griefs, plan activities to improve their emotional intelligence, and assist with learning difficulties. My time here has been very enjoyable, and in my opinion, I have achieved significant professional growth.

In my free time, I have explored the neighborhood and a few nearby cities like Malaga, Mijas, and Marbella. There has been a lot to see, such as the Picasso Museum, the zoo and my favorite Caminito del Rey. I also spend time at the beach and enjoy different sports like padel and hiking in the mountains. It has been fun to spend time with the other interns and unforgetable memories with them.

Since I did my practical training in a Finnish school, I didn’t experience many differences in work culture; it was very similar to Finland. A few differences I noticed were a more relaxed mindset and a more welcoming environment comparing to the places I have been before.
