Studies in Stuttgart
During my studies in Stuttgart at the Hochschule der Medien, I’m studying print and packaging. My courses here are Current Aspects of Packaging, Logistics Basics, Packaging Logistics, German Society and Culture, German Language, Practical Training in Pre-Press, Press & Post-Press and Campaign Management which is a group project course. I prefer practical learning and I really appreciate that we have a chance to use high-quality machines here.
Spare Time in Stuttgart
I like the size of Stuttgart. There’s much to see in the city; many good restaurants, a nice mall and shopping street, beautiful parks and cool landmarks. ESN also organizes many kinds of student events for exchange students. It’s also very easy to travel around from Stuttgart. I have visited Switzerland and France by train, many Stuttgart’s nearby cities and also had a chance to buy cheap tickets to London! Now during Christmas time, I have enjoyed all the Christmas markets! Also our beer festival ”Wasen” was an awesome experience. I’m really thankful for all the memories and looking forward to what’s still coming!
Finland vs Germany academic culture
Now when I’ve spent almost 3 months here I can see the differences between Finland’s and Germany’s academic life. Personally, I have to say that I prefer Finland’s academic culture. Lectures here in Germany are quite long, from 1,5h to 5 hours. I also miss the school lunch because here the lunch is usually just a small snack. Also, the student parties aren’t that well organized here and there aren’t that many parties compared to Finland. However I like the lectures, the teachers and other students are very friendly.
To summarize I would say that this exchange has given me so much by now and I have also grown cultural and personal. After living in the dorms and sharing an apartment with 5 other people I’ll really appreciate my own apartment and the peace. But also many things that I believe I’ll be missing when I leave. Forever cherishing this adventure!
