I have completed my studies in Munich University of Applied sciences (Hochschule München) and said goodbyes to my colleagues and to the city. I liked the city and my studies a lot. There were lots of beautiful places, happy moments and good beers.

My studies went mostly well and clean. Studying in Finland versus Germany was the same in most parts. Same kind of schedules, same kind of teachers and methods. The biggest difference between studies were about how deeply we went into theory. In Germany we always calculated cases on ideal level. But in Finland we studied around 65 % of the time about real life applications and cases.

The exams were a lot different. In Finland we had plenty of time to do the exams. Typically three hours to do the exam, but in Germany we had only one hour of time to do the exam. If the exam was very hard, then professor could give us 90 minutes in total. So it was always less than half of time to do the exam there. Homework and tasks on exam were also bit different style. In Finland we have almoust never the same tasks in exam and for homework, but it was everyday thing in Germany. Failing exam in Finland isn’t big of a deal, but failing an exam in Germany is a big problem. In Germany students get the next chance to pass the exam in next  semester exam period, which is around 6 months.

Student life in Germany is lot different. Lot less organised events and much more hanging around school and beergardens. Last semester there was only one festival for students called StuStaCulum. It lasted four days and had five stages and small bands playing all evening. Inside the university the student rooms were much bigger and better. While in Finland they are small rooms with table, sofa and coffee machine, at same time in Germany there were big rooms in central. They had their own bars, card payment systems, hired people to take care of the room and also room for something unique. And did I mention, that every department had their own rooms to hang around. That way students from same degree had easier to get together.

International students had their own hiking group. We went for hiking to Mountains in Alps almost weekly basis. The views were awesome and experience was unforgettable. It took a lot of time and energy to go 1000 meters up to the top for some snack, but I absolutely loved it. I hope that I could have the same experience here in Finland.
