Greetings from Sweden!

Göteborg

Oh, härliga Sverige - wonderful Sweden..

My name is Maiju and I am third-year social services student from Finland. I am currently doing my internships in Upplands Väsby, Sweden. I am doing work with children, so I am in early childhood education and care centre. Languages of action are Swedish and Finnish. I think that Finnish language is more in use in childgroup but  my Swedish language has developed nevertheless.

Working in childhood education and care in Sweden is slightly different like in Finland. Whereas in Finland the early childhood teacher alone plans the activities for the whole group, here in Sweden responsibility is shared  by everyone on the group, regardless of their role. Otherwise, the work is very much like being in Finland. But of course, it’s short-sighted to say that, because I have only experienced one place whole the country. 🙂

My experience in Sweden has been ”good”. I only say good, because these weeks have been full of sorts emotions. I believe that if I were here as an exchange student, I would be part of student culture. It would be more natural to get to know and spend free time in with people who in the same situation in life. I have missed the comminity so much. On the other hand, however, I have made a lot of contacts through my work and hobbies. And I have been able to get involved in erasmus activities. However, the mix of schoolworks, work and responsibilites of the past year, weighs on my backpack and it also feels like now.

But being in Sweden was good, and oh my, what a great country Sweden is. I like it more and more again. I love also Swedish language and I still hope to work in Swedish one day.
