The first thing that comes to my mind when thinking about Finnishness is the nature. Finland is known for its thousands of lakes and green forests. You can also experience the famous Aurora Borealis here. We enjoy living close to the nature, especially when it comes to our summer cottages. Usually the Finnish cottage has no electricity or running water and is located in the middle of nowhere. We enjoy everything our nature has to offer for example by picking the berries and mushrooms from our forests.
Sauna is a big part of Finnish culture. We enjoy the sauna in different occasions with our close ones or with complete strangers. To cool down, it is common to go out and dip in a lake or to roll around in the snow. It helps you feel refreshed and to be able to enjoy your sauna experience longer.
Finnish people are known to be quite quiet and reserved before you get to know them. It is considered weird to speak to strangers and we don’t enjoy small talk that much. It’s said that we only talk when we have something important to say.
