Finnishness

Spain is the opposite of Finland. Spain is full of life, conversations happen everywhere. People are loud and streets are usually busy . Finland is calm, quiet and peaceful. It has taken a while for me to get used to the silence in Finland.

Finland’s quietness has made me feel safe. I have the ability to walk alone at night, looking out for myself. People’spersonal spaces are respected and everything is done as given. It is as if everything is done as expected. This makes Finland’s environment peaceful, safe and efficient.

Melancholy is present in Finland. This is especially noticeable in the long and dark winter. I don’t see melancholy as a negative. In fact, it is good for people to ease their minds, take a moment to enjoy nature and be silent. Everything in Finland is in contrast of Spain like life and noise. It has made me see everything in a different way.

Finnishness stems from nature. The fresh and clean air and calmness of lakes and forests set Finland apart. Time outdoors is part of life in Finland. Nature is appreciated for its ability to remove stress. Finnishness is about comfort with nature and having a quiet mind as well as respecting one another.
