So three things that I think of when the word ‘finnishness’ is mentioned.
First thing that comes to mind is ‘sisu’. It means not giving up when things get difficult and being determined to keep going and staying calm while facing challenges. These traits are something that many Finns are proud of.
Another thing that represents Finnishness to me is nature. Finland is known for its clean air, pure water, beautiful forests and thousands of lakes. Spending time outdoors is important for many Finns, which is why a large number of people own summer cottages where they can relax and enjoy time with family and friends surrounded by nature.
Finnish people are often very reserved. We like our personal space and don’t talk to a lot of strangers. It might seem unusual to some people, but to us its a sign of respec in a way. We speak when we have something meaningful to say and skip the uncomfortable small talk.
Overall, to me Finnishness is not just one thing. It’s a mix of traditions, values, and ways of life that create our culture and identity. I am proud to be Finnish.
