For me, Finnishness is closely tied to nature and the simple, grounded way of life. Every summer I spend time at my family’s farm, which is one of the most beautiful places I know. The days are filled with fishing, swimming on the lake and working in the forest. Those quiet evenings by the water, when the sun barely sets, make me feel proud of my roots.
Winter brings another side of Finnishness. Cold mornings, frozen lakes, and the love for winter sports are a big part of who we are. Hockey especially is important, both to play and to watch with friends and family. After spending many hours in the freezing cold, Finns love to enjoy sauna, which is a huge part of our culture.
To me, Finnishness means finding strength in nature, in traditions, and in the everyday work that helps us stay grounded. It’s not about big words or showing off, but about keeping it honest and real.
