In Finland, we have four seasons: winter, spring, summer and fall. They all are very different from each other, except for the fact that it can rain at any time of the year… I feel I’ve taken the four seasons for granted and even disliked the change when I was younger, but I’ve come to have different thoughts about it as I’ve gotten older.
Nowadays the climate change is changing the world. It is affecting everything and everyone, but the biggest affect it has on the weather. It has shaken the seasons and mixed the normal weather phenomena. For example, the winters in Finland can now be extremely cold or as warm as the Finnish summer sometimes. Some years back the seasons had their own special qualities which made us change our wardrobes every three months! Back then I despised it but now I’ve come to the realization that it’s a really special thing to have.
The nature looks completely different on different seasons, but it also smells different. There’s no smell like spring after the winter’s snow melts away. Or the smell of the forest in the summer after a long period of rain. Finnish weather can change in seconds, and that has made me appreciate the enjoyable weather more. I love summer and I think I wouldn’t love it as much if all year was just about warmness and sun. Finns have to survive through the darkness of the fall and winter to deserve the nightless night in the summer. I think that is one of the reasons why Finnish people are resilient.
