What is Finnishness to me?

Finnish cabin in winter

How did I experience the Finnishness?

Finland and the people can seem cold as that is the main stereotype and weather, only one is true. Yes it is cold in the winter, but that doesn’t mean people don’t go outside. For me winter in Finland was the most magical, you never know if you will see the northern lights or will have a huge snow storm, but the one thing you can count on that there will be a warm sauna somewhere nearby. With that I have say people might seem cold from the outside, but they are always happy to help you in any situation. Once you spend more time with them you learn how friendly and warm they are, you can go to a sauna alone, but when going to the ice bath after in a lake it is 10 times better with other people around. Same when you go on a walk in the Finnish nature which is a huge part of the Finnish lifestyle sitting around a campfire together is much better. Finnishness involves admiring the beauty of winter outside away from big crowds, but never alone. In the two years I spent in Finland I learned to enjoy the small things and slow down.
