Communication

Third challenge of this class. The task was to think about communication between people.  I was in a group with 3 people. We wanted to choose more specific topic. Our topic was “what languages entrepreneurs use in Finland”.  We choose this topic because we saw that it can be really useful for our team. We have foreign students in our team so this should be really interesting for them too. Thinking about action for this challenge took more time than I expected. There was many of good ideas coming in and we had to choose one or combine them. It was nice to see how everyone in my group tried to create and develop the idea.

We decided to interview entrepreneurs. Everyone ask them questions they think are useful and interesting. I had two foreign students in my group, they had change to interview foreign entrepreneurs about languages they use. This made this challenge even more interesting. I interviewed entrepreneur from automation and machine industry. My questions were mostly about how much he uses English in his business. He said that in the beginning when he started company, he didn’t use English at all but now after 10 years he has customers from other counties for example from USA. He said that without knowing English it would have been really hard to try expanding his company. One of my groupmates had really good interview with an entrepreneur from China. He had restaurant business here in Finland. He said that if you have a good business idea, the language won’t be barrier.

In action part we shared our wrap ups from interviews. Everyone seemed to be interested and we got really good dialogue about what languages entrepreneurs use. I learned that it is really important to know English when being entrepreneur. You have change to expand your business and communicate with people from other countries. Overall this challenge went really well, and I personally got a lot of new information and knowledge about what is languages role in being entrepreneur. I hope others also got something out of this.
