We spent the session in Kauppi forest and decided to try speaking only in the target languages. I managed to keep a short French conversation.
It felt rewarding to see real progress. I made mistakes, and used english to fill in some sentences, but I tried my best and I believe that’s the point. Teaching Finnish conversation helped my partner gain confidence too.
Keeping the whole session in the target language was hard mentally. Since our level is not yet there to keep a conversation in these languages for 45min each, we decided to pick out French and Finnish artists for each other to listen to on Spotify. I chose Jenni Vartiainen, Cheek and Ibe for Sanaa to listen to and she chose Jul, Naps and Hamza for me to listen to. I believe listening to the language in the form of music is very beneficial and also motivating.
