Living in Barcelona has been an incredible experience, from navigating the vibrant academic scene to immersing myself in the rich Catalan culture. In this postcard, I’ll share a glimpse of my studies, my adventures in the city, and how it all compares to life back in Finland.
1) Studies
My studies in Barcelona have been both challenging and rewarding. The university uses old fashion classes with teacher explaining methods and we have time to practice on our own making questions to the teachers. Compared to Finland, where education is more through opportunities to work on real-world projects as-based, the approach here is less flexible and doesn’t encourage creativity in the classes.
2) Spare Time in Barcelona
In my free time, I’ve been exploring the beautiful streets of Barcelona, soaking up the architecture and enjoying the local cuisine. The city’s lively atmosphere offers endless opportunities, from hiking up Montjuïc for stunning views to relaxing on the beach. The cultural festivals, like La Mercè, have been highlights, offering a unique glimpse into local traditions.”
3) Comparing Study and Work Culture: Barcelona vs. Finland
The work and study culture in Barcelona is noticeably different from Finland. In Barcelona, the atmosphere is more relaxed, with a greater emphasis on social interactions and group work. People here value taking time to enjoy life, often balancing work with long lunches and evening tapas. In Finland, the culture is more reserved and focused, with a strong emphasis on individual responsibility and punctuality. Both have their advantages, but it’s been fascinating to experience these differences firsthand.”
Conclusion
Barcelona has been an eye-opening experience, offering a perfect blend of academics and cultural immersion. It’s been interesting to observe and adapt to the differences in study and work culture compared to Finland, and I’m excited to see what the rest of my exchange will bring.
