Hej! from the Swedish West Coast!
I got the chance to do five weeks internship in Gothenburg, doing my practical training as a Business Development and Marketing Intern at Trialme, an early-stage health-tech startup. My days were a balance between digital execution and on-the-ground action. I created marketing videos, managed LinkedIn content to raise awareness about women’s health.
Outside of work, Gothenburg was fantastic to explore. My free time was spent soaking in the local rhythm by taking long walks through the cobbled streets, trying authentic Swedish fika (cinnamon buns are unbeatable here), and hopping on the city’s trams to visit the waterfront and botanical gardens. Coming from studying at TAMK in Finland, comparing the two working cultures was one of the most interesting parts of this exchange. While both countries share a love for flat hierarchies, punctuality, and coffee, Sweden leans heavily on open discussion, consensus, and social workplace rituals. In Sweden, fika isn’t just a break rather it’s an essential meeting place where everyone, from interns to founders, shares ideas equally. Finland often values quiet, direct individual execution, whereas the Swedish startup culture felt slightly more conversational, encouraging team dialogue and shared decision-making at every step.
Overall, these five weeks gave me invaluable international business experience, practical marketing skills, and a memorable stay in Sweden!
